User Research Internship

Without knowing how our users interact with our product, we have no way of knowing how to improve their experience. We are offering an exciting internship opportunity for a research-focused individual who wants to gain an in-depth insight into the user research and testing processes of the world’s largest hotel search. During your internship you will undertake qualitative research, observing and recording users’ behaviour as they perform various tests and interact with our product. You will conduct data analysis as you review, structure and summarize the recorded notes, videos and audio files before creating presentations containing your findings and any actionable insights you have generated. You will put our website through heuristic evaluations and compare it to our competitors, focusing on their strategy, features and usability. Working under the supervision of a senior researcher, you will plan, execute and report the insights of a research project. You will create prototypes, images and materials to support research studies and will directly interact with users as you conduct interviews. We’re always looking for possible improvements we can make so we will expect you to suggest any software or tools you believe may empower our research department.

The ideal candidate:

  • Speaks English (our company language) fluently. Knowledge of German would be a plus.
  • Holds a M.Sc. or Diplom in Computer Human Interaction, Psychology, Human Factors, Information Science or a related field.
  • Has previous experience (e.g. has extensively covered in their studies) qualitative research and is familiar with usability tests, formative evaluation, card sorting, personas and scenario creation. Previous experience with quantitative research or Lean UX would be a bonus.
  • Can identify and reduce sources of bias in order to present unbiased, actionable, data-driven insights.
  • Can be objective and impartial in their research process and will pursue truth rather than trying to confirm their hypothesis.
  • Is analytically minded and has an exceptional aptitude for interviews.
  • Is a competent user of usability testing tools such as Morae or Silverback, as well as prototyping software such as Axure.
  • Is proficient in using Excel or other software for data analysis.
  • Works well as part of a team.
  • Can start as soon as possible.
